Installation

To use the brackets, hold a bracket against the house and position the bottom of the bracket to where the bottom of the deck ledger board will be, and make a center mark in the top hole of the bracket. Using that center mark, draw a level line on the house the length of the ledger board.

Determine where the ends of the ledger board are and place a mark on the line 4" to 6" from each end. This will be where the first brackets are set. The other brackets in between should be spaced 12" to 16" on center, or between each joist, (see cross section of bracket spacing).

Now drill a 5/16" pilot hole into the siding at these marks to accommodate a 1/2" diameter bolt. Dab a little caulking into and around the holes and bolt the brackets firmly to the house. The caulking will spread between the house and the brackets creating a watertight seal. It's that simple.

If conditions allow, build the deck on the ground and then set it into the brackets. For larger decks, build the deck in sections and then set them. After the framework has been set, leveled and squared, add a second bolt through the lower hole of the bracket and into the ledger board, as seen in the "Attachment Methods".

Always check with your local Building Department for approval of the "Stratton Bracket"
